About
With over 40 years of work history, Jim brings an invaluable base of knowledge from politics, restaurant management, real estate, and manufacturing to the table. His broad understanding of these industries has helped him to attain and commit to his main purpose in life; to serve people and his country.
Jim served three years in the United States Army Honor Guard and two years in the Michigan National Guard. After eight years as Township Trustee and another four as County Commissioner, he made the decision to run for state office. In 2008, Jim was elected into the Michigan House of Representatives and served three terms – two of which he served as the Majority Floor Leader. Following his service in the House of Representatives, Jim was elected to serve as a Michigan State Senator for two terms and he served as the Chair of Appropriations in the final four years.
Through these opportunities, Jim acquired extensive and unique experiences in strategic policy, advocacy, finance, fundraising, and operations across business, higher education, and the public sector. He notes his largest achievements in the way he is able to effectively manage crises and complex transactions addressing operational, political, and reputational risks. Jim has worked with multiple diverse teams and demonstrates his strong solution-focused and results-oriented leadership.
Jim holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Administration from Northwood University and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Saginaw Valley University in 2022.
He has been blessed with nearly 40 years of marriage to his true love, Marsha, with whom he has two pretty kick-ass adult children.
